Allied Telesis Places Strategic Focus on IP Surveillance Market
SAN JOSE, Calif., (ASIS International 2009 Show, Anaheim; Booth #4178), September 22, 2009 ? Allied Telesis Inc., a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple-Play networks, today announced its strategic focus on the IP Surveillance market for North America, in particular. Leveraging its strength in Ethernet networking and scalable multi-cast traffic support, as well as key industry partnerships, Allied Telesis is strongly positioned to gain IP-based security and surveillance mindshare among enterprise and government sectors.
With a deep history in delivering high-quality, IP-based video services over Ethernet networks ? with more than 500,000 end-points already deployed ? Allied Telesis has a unique opportunity to advance the IP Surveillance market by bringing its expertise in Triple-Play (voice, data, video) technology and engineering, especially by providing sophisticated switching technology in partnership with other manufacturers’ components to enterprise and government customers.
“Allied Telesis has developed and refined its IP Surveillance solution over the past five years to meet the growing market requirements for businesses and governments looking to deploy Fast Ethernet to 10 Gigabit-based video solutions in both Layer 2 and 3 networks,” said Lisa Thompson, vice president, North America enterprise sales, Allied Telesis. “With the power of global engineering know-how and experience from the Triple-Play market, we are uniquely positioned to deliver networked video solutions that are scalable, reliable, and cost effective.”
Focus on Technology
Allied Telesis’ IP Surveillance solution set is built on its Layer-2 switches for small-to medium-sized installations and Layer-3 technologies for larger environments. Relying on its infrastructure to link components of an all IP-based video surveillance solution – including cameras, video management software, servers, storage, clients (PCs), and the network, Allied Telesis offers organizations proven technologies that enable applications to converge on an intelligent and resilient infrastructure. “Our Layer-2 approach is preferable in installations due to simplified network configuration and maintenance, as it does not require a complex multicast architecture involving multicast routing protocols,” said Philip Jopa, chief technology officer, Allied Telesis. “For larger deployments, where video data is configured in a routed multicast environment, we focus on our Layer-3 technologies to ensure scalability and provide a network that is robust, reliable, and easy-to-manage.”
Depending on network requirements such as the number of ports and bandwidth required, Allied Telesis offers multiple tiered solutions:
- Small Enterprise Solutions: Allied Telesis delivers single-switch solutions leveraging its AT-8000S/AT-8000GS family, ideal for inexpensive and well-featured build-outs with Power over Ethernet capabilities.
- Medium-Sized Enterprise Solutions: In a distributed installation where cameras are installed in multiple buildings and there exists one or more connected switches per location, Allied Telesis uses a ring topology to ensure high availability of multicast traffic delivery. By connecting access switches (AT-8000-series) to IP cameras and core switches (including the x900-series), which provide connectivity to servers and client PCs, Allied Telesis ensures high levels of accessibility. This is achieved through link redundancy or through Allied Telesis’ own virtual chassis stacking solution (VCStack™) with link aggregation.
- Large-Scale Distributed Enterprise Solutions: In a large campus or metro-area networks, the IP video surveillance system must be reliable, manageable, and scalable. Services, like video surveillance, can be provisioned with one or more VLANs running over Allied Telesis’ fast-failover ring protection solution, EPSR (Ethernet Protected Switching Ring), with data on Layer-2 or Layer-3 switched between SwitchBlade x908 VCStack rings and the central-site server facility.
Focus on PartnershipsTo provide reliable network services to end users, a deep understanding of network design is required. Allied Telesis has partnered with leading vendors and system integrators in the IP-based security and surveillance market to further extend its footprint in the global industry.
Today, at ASIS International 2009, Allied Telesis announced several vendor alliances within its partner program, including several of the most recognized companies in the industry: Axis Communications, DVTel, Inc., and Red Hawk. When offered together with Allied Telesis’ infrastructure solutions, the combined organizations present valuable, customized security applications for enterprise and government customers and targets.
The Allied Telesis IP Surveillance Solutions Partner Program also includes multiple channel partners to extend the Company’s reach into the enterprise.
Focus on Benefits
Allied Telesis’ IP Surveillance strategy centers on the end-user, as it is critical to maintain the highest level of QoS, especially when multiple services share the same network infrastructure. There are multiple key benefits to Allied Telesis’ offering:
- High Availability: With resiliency and redundancy built-in, Allied Telesis’ intelligent network makes 24/7/365 availability a priority with a rich feature-set that maximizes uptime, even in the event of a primary system failure.
- Optimal Performance: Allied Telesis keeps applications running smoothly and quickly, and enables the user to prioritize which applications are most important in peak times.
- Ease-in-Management: Bandwidth usage can be controlled, ensuring the timely delivery of traffic and access to applications so no one service can starve other services of bandwidth. Additionally, Allied Telesis ensures data streams are delivered smoothly, minimizing packet loss and jitter.
- Security: Offering trusted security system network management and a series of features including Stateful Inspection Firewall, Encryption, VPNs, IP Filtering, and User Authentication, Allied Telesis minimizes risk and ensures IP Surveillance communications are delivered in a safe, secure manner.
