Allied Telesis launches the AT-CV5001 green media converter chassis
Chiasso, Switzerland – 12 January 2009 – Allied Telesis has today launched the AT-CV5001, 18-slot managed Converteon - media converter chassis. The AT-CV5001 offers a highly efficient power supply and dual redundant hot swappable AC or DC power supplies with up to two redundant management cards. The AT-CV5001 is the replacement for the AT-CV5000 chassis.
The AT-CV5001 has a highly efficient power supply, reducing overall power consumption of a fully loaded system from 175W in the AT-CV5000 to <140W. This coupled with the new eco-friendly modules launched in 2009, which themselves save more than 30% power over previous models, results in significant power savings. Compared to the 2009 model, the 2010 model, including a new chassis, PSU and blades will consume 20% less power.
The power supplies are hot swappable, which reduces system down time, as failed units can be replaced without interruption to the operation of the chassis, management or blades, as the AT-CV5001 does not need to be powered down. As part of the functionality upgrade the AT-CV5001 also allows any mix of AC or DC power supplies, either one of each or two of the same.
Melvyn Wray, Senior VP of Product Marketing EMEA at Allied Telesis, commented, “The features incorporated into the AT-CV5001 Converteon makes it a superior product compared to existing chassis media converters on the market. In particular the hot swappable power supplies are a functionality not found in many other current media converter products. Additionally, with a possible 20% reduction in power consumption, its green credentials are exceptional.”
The AT-CV5001 Converteon offers Fast Ethernet or Gigabit media conversion and supports all fiber types. It also gives jumbo packet, OAM (Operations, Administration and Management) and Dying Gasp support. It has the ability to undertake remote configurations and uploads and has resilient management support.
The AT-CV5001 is suitable for a number of applications. Business fiber to the premises is ideally suited, allowing companies to deploy blades as they grow, at a much lower cost than iMAP. In addition, the AT-CV5001 caters for a mixture of fiber distances and speeds, each blade can be different and support a different SFP module, therefore, each blade can support a different infrastructure. Factory automation applications can also benefit from the AT-CV5001, as these have greatly differing requirements for varying lengths of fiber cables. Management is also important, as is being able to monitor the remote connection. Resilience and redundancy are mandatory too in factory automation, as whole production lines will be shut down if a single item fails to operate. The AT-CV5001 addresses all these issues.
The AT-CV5001 will be available from Allied Telesis in EMEA from January 2010 and the price will remain the same as the AT-CV5000 chassis and power supplies.
