Butler County, Ohio, Standardizes on Allied Telesis Network Infrastructure Equipment
SAN JOSE, Calif., January 19, 2010-Allied Telesis Inc., a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple-Play networks, has been selected by Butler County, a county government in Ohio, as its networking equipment standard – deploying Allied Telesis networking infrastructure solutions to more than 40 buildings within the County’s campus. Allied Telesis has installed a variety of its networking products including the AT-9700 series, AT-8000 series, AT-X908 SwitchBladeTM, and media converters, to ensure network disturbances are minimized in order to best serve the County’s community.
A long-term relationship beginning more than six years ago, Butler County became acquainted with Allied Telesis when it first purchased multiple media converters. Impressed with how the equipment was built and maintained throughout years of service, Butler County looked to engage Allied Telesis for additional networking gear. In the next phase of the relationship, Butler County deployed the Allied Telesis AT-8000 series for its IP-based phone system installation, requiring PoE (Power over Ethernet) capabilities. This deployment was followed by Allied Telesis’ involvement in and installation of an 800 MHz radio system, including enhanced Allied Telesis technology for advanced fiber optic functionality – ensuring reliable communications access for public safety officials.
When building out its network, Butler County turned to Allied Telesis for advanced Layer 3 routing capabilities. Allied Telesis was the only industry player to offer Layer 3 switches with OSPF routing without an additional license. This benefit came in addition to the cost savings the County experienced, derived from the reliability of Allied Telesis networking gear – enabling Butler County to lower its cost for switch replacement, and to lower maintenance costs through consistent, transparent software and firmware updates.
“Allied Telesis is the best-kept secret when it comes to networking equipment,” said Mike Felerski, network manager, Butler County. “For the length of our partnership, we have continued to be impressed with the Allied Telesis equipment and team. The price-to-performance ratio has exceeded our expectations, as well as the equipment’s long-term reliability and the Company’s consistent level of engineering support. For these reasons alone, Allied Telesis has become an integral part of our next-generation convergence plans.”
Butler County is currently working with Allied Telesis on its next phase of deployment, looking at best practices for video convergence, including the use of video for teleconferencing, IP surveillance, and video arraignments for enhanced County security.
“Local governments require dependable networks to support specific, mission-critical business needs – from public safety and 911 services to community and educational services," said Lisa Thompson, vice president, North American enterprise sales, Allied Telesis. “Working closely with Butler County, we delivered a turnkey networking solution providing an optimized infrastructure backbone to enable more reliable communications to Butler County’s constituents. We look forward to further supporting Butler County’s networking needs as their networking partner of choice.”
Today, Allied Telesis network equipment is spread across 40 buildings in the Butler County campus. These buildings include animal shelters, 911 centers, libraries, and schools and universities, as well as legal and public safety (fire and law enforcement) facilities.
